World Bank identifies reasons for slowdown in Tajik economy

World Bank experts assessed future economic growth prospects of the Republic of Tajikistan. In their opinion, the economic growth of the country will slow down in the next few years, and there are several reasons for this. The information was published in the World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects: Europe and Central Asia on the WB website on January 11.

Experts noted that one of the main reasons for the slowdown in Tajik economy would be the coronavirus pandemic and the emergence of new strains of the virus.

Representatives of the international financial institution emphasised that an unstable epidemiological situation in the world would lead to a reduction in fiscal support and supply chain disruptions globally.

Next year, Tajikistan may face inflation and financial shocks, which will also be a consequence of the spread of new COVID-19 variants.

Particular attention was paid to the deteriorating geopolitical situation in the Central Asian region, as well as on the border between Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
