On January 7, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed citizens of the country on the recent events. He said he had ordered the army and police to shoot at terrorists to kill without warning, and they were morally and technically prepared to fulfil this order, the press office of Akorda reported.
Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said the situation in Almaty, Aktobe and Almaty Region had returned to normal. Following the events, foreign “human rights activists” recommend launching negotiations and using peaceful levers to solve a number of problems. The President said this was nonsense, and there could be no talks with criminals and murderers.
The President said in light of the stabilization of the situation, internet connection would be restored in some regions for a limited period. The leader of the Republic emphasised that the global network should not be used to post fabrications, slander, insults and inflammatory materials. The email accounts of the authors uploading such content would be promptly tracked, the President said.
In his address, Tokayev expressed paternal gratitude to citizens of Kazakhstan who had been staying calm in this tough time, had done everything possible to restore stability and order and had not succumbed to provocations and destructive propaganda.
