President of Uzbekistan attends informal CIS Summit

On December 28, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited St. Petersburg, where he attended the informal Summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The meeting in the northern capital of Russia informally marked the 30th anniversary of the CIS. The leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev attended the Summit.

The participants summed up the chairmanship of Belarus in the CIS in 2021 and identified the priorities for the next year. They also discussed the issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

The participants focused on the measures taken to cope with the economic impacts of the pandemic and achieve epidemiological safety.

Addressing the Summit, President Mirziyoev highlighted the need to focus on boosting economic, political, cultural and humanitarian cooperation among the CIS countries. The interaction in the implementation of the green development programmes, the fight against climate change and the achievement of food safety are of particular importance.

After the Summit had concluded, the President of Uzbekistan returned to Tashkent.
