Tokayev and President of Inter-Parliamentary Union discuss future plans

On December 20, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held talks with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco. The interlocutors discussed the practical phases of further interaction between Kazakhstan and the international organisation, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and emphasised its leading role in coordinating the activities of the parliaments of the world and developing effective relationships among parliamentarians. Tokayev positively evaluated Duarte Pacheco’s visit in the context of parliamentary diplomacy and noted that Kazakhstan paid great attention to developing these relationships.

The President of Kazakhstan briefed the distinguished guest on the progress of large-scale political reforms aimed at strengthening democratic foundations, the rule of law and respect for human rights in the country. The Kazakh leader invited his guest to participate in the VII World Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which would take place in September next year.

Duarte Pacheco congratulated Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev on the 30th anniversary of independence of Kazakhstan, welcomed its achievements in politics, economy and diplomacy and shared the priority vectors of development of the Union for the near future.
