US Government donates nearly 2.5 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to Tajikistan

On December 13, the US Government delivered 153,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Tajikistan as part of its commitment to donate 1.1 billion of coronavirus vaccines to the countries most in need. In total, the United States has donated nearly 2.5 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to Dushanbe, the US Embassy press office reported.

The recent delivery has became possible through the United States Agency for International Development. Additional 146,500 doses of the coronavirus vaccine will arrive in Tajikistan from the United States in the coming days.

The Embassy officials noted that since March 2020, the United States had provided more than US$12 million in equipment and technical support to help the Tajikistan fight against coronavirus.

USAID/Tajikistan Mission Director Peter Riley noted that Tajikistan’s vaccine campaign had reached more than 40% of the country. According to him, Washington intends to help the authorities of Tajikistan reach 70 % full vaccination coverage. 

As of today, 3.2 million citizens have been vaccinated in the country, corresponding to more than 55% of the total adult population.
