Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran agreed to strengthen cooperation

On December 13, Tehran initiated a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Iranian leader Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi. The parties outlined the main vectors of further interstate cooperation, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

Raisi congratulated his colleague on the 26th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan. Then the parties noted the great opportunities for countries within the framework of cooperation in the fuel and energy complex, transport and communication, industrial, agricultural, processing spheres.

Specific attention was paid to the importance of increasing the efficiency of the work of the intergovernmental commission. The emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen interaction in the field of ensuring peace, in particular within the framework of the United Nations. The conversation also touched upon the dialogue between Ashgabat and Tehran within the ECO.

Berdimuhamedov and Raisi agreed to strengthen ties in the humanitarian, scientific, educational, cultural and sports fields.

In October, Turkmenistan and Iran partially opened all border crossings, which were previously closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
