Accessible environment to improve lives of disabled people

On December 3, Chairman of the National Association of Disabled People of Tajikistan Asadullo Zikrikhudoev spoke about the benefits of the Accessible Environment state programme in an interview with the Khovar News Agency. He said it was aimed to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Zikrikhudoev emphasised that the Association together with the Committee for Architecture and Construction developed the programme. It will be implemented over 5 years, from 2021 to 2025.

Accessible Environment is aimed at providing access to social infrastructure and urban and suburban transport for citizens with disabilities. The programme would create the better conditions for this population group to use communication and information means, the Chairman of the Association added.

The priorities of the Accessible Environment programme include inclusive education, employment and tolerant attitudes towards citizens with disabilities.

Zikrikhudoev noted that the leader of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York on March 22, 2018.
