Dushanbe and Moscow coordinate efforts on situation in Afghanistan

The topic was raised during the talks between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Russia.

On October 29, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin held telephone conversations with his counterpart from the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov. The parties discussed the situation in Afghanistan and agreed to join efforts to fight terrorism, the press office of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The officials highlighted the importance of coordinating efforts to settle the situation in Afghanistan. Particular attention was paid to the events, which would take place in the coming months.

Mukhriddin and Lavrov agreed that counter-terrorism activities should be based on the decisions of the CSTO and SCO summits that took place in September this year, as well as the agreements reached at the Moscow format meeting on October 20.

The talks focused on the prospects for interstate cooperation on labour migration issues and culture, as well as in the humanitarian sphere. Lavrov noted the importance of the transfer of school 7 in Kulyab to the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University in the capital of Tajikistan.

Russia has offered Tajikistan assistance on a regular basis to address the threats from Afghanistan.
