Japarov calls on CIS states to provide assistance to Afghan people

The President of Kyrgyzstan highlighted the need to consolidate efforts to timely respond to emerging external challenges.

On October 15, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov delivered a speech at a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, calling on foreign states to provide comprehensive humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Japarov noted that the current situation in Afghanistan could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in this country due to the further deterioration of the socio-economic and food crises.

The President urged to take joint effective measures to neutralize external challenges and threats.

In this regard, it was emphasised that the CIS was called upon to act as a significant factor in regional stability and positively influence the ongoing processes.

Chairman of the CIS Council of Heads of State, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko supported Japarov’s initiative to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and instructed the CIS Executive Committee to take the necessary measures.

Following the meeting, a number of documents were adopted, including a Statement of the Heads of State of the CIS Member States marking the 30th anniversary of the CIS.
