Rahmon discussed cooperation in the hydropower sector, as well as the situation in Afghanistan with foreign representatives.

On October 11, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with a number of officials during his working visit to Brussels. He held talks with President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the Belgian House of Representatives Eliane Tillieux and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

The talks with Michel focused on the aspects of interaction in the mining, hydropower, agricultural and tourism sectors. Particular attention was paid to preparations for signing an extended cooperation agreement.

The talks with Eliane Tillieux focused on the need to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Belgium. Then the leader of Tajikistan held talks with Borrell.

The parties discussed cooperation in the energy sector, the implementation of the CASA-1000 project and the development of a ‘green economy’. The emphasis was placed on the accession of the Central Asian republic to the system of customs privileges for exports to the EU states.

Rahmon and the Vice President of the European Commission agreed to make additional efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic and protect glaciers.

The leader of Tajikistan thanked the interlocutor for the US$ 112 million aid provided to the republic to solve the economic problems caused by the pandemic. In addition, he said hydropower facilities produced 98% of energy in the Central Asian country.

It should be noted that the fragile situation in Afghanistan was touched upon during each meeting. Emomali Rahmon invited each of the foreign representatives to visit Dushanbe at any convenient time.
