Mine in Kazakhstan becomes one of world’s largest copper producers

Investments in the extraction of raw materials and the construction of the enterprises Aktogay I and Aktogay II exceeded US$ 3 billion.

On October 1, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited the Aktogay mining and processing complex of KAZ Minerals Aktogay LLP in Ayagoz district of East Kazakhstan Region, where the leader of Kazakhstan took part in the launching ceremony of the second processing plant on the field. This event placed the mine on a par with the world’s largest copper producers, the information portal of the President reported.

When visiting the new enterprise, the President learned about the main activities of KAZ Minerals Aktogay and the ore mining process. The leader of Kazakhstan officially gave a start to the new sulphide factory and wished every success to the local employees.

Tokayev focused on the social and economic benefits of putting the enterprise into operation. He emphasised that it would significantly increase the export of processed products, create 700 jobs and direct substantial tax deductions to the budget. The plant built the necessary social infrastructure and contributed to equipping educational and healthcare facilities in the East Kazakhstan region, the President noted.

The idea of expanding the industrial capacities of the Aktogay mining and processing complex was put into practice in 2017. Investments in the development of rich copper deposits, including the construction of the enterprises Aktogay I and Aktogay II, have amounted to US$ 3.2 billion.
