Moscow calls on Dushanbe and Kabul to resolve border conflict

Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zaytsev made this statement.

On September 30, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexey Zaytsev spoke during a briefing about the deteriorating situation on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the press office of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Zaytsev noted that the parties had begun to pull their troops to the border. Several tens of thousands of special forces troops have been deployed near Takhar Province. In this context, he said Dushanbe and Kabul should build a constructive dialogue and resolve the current situation. Particular attention was paid to the tough statements of the leaders of the two countries.

The official noted that the United States was mostly responsible for the processes taking place in Afghanistan. According to him, the Islamic state was seeing a decline in cash transactions, and the banks were paralyzed. Many citizens of the country have been left without their wages, and industrial production has declined sharply.

Earlier Tajikistan was called the hub of Afghanistan’s resistance. Dushanbe provides support to the anti-government movement in Panjshir Province.

Meanwhile, Washington is negotiating with the authorities of Tajikistan on the use of its territory for counter-terrorism operations.
