He posted photos of the capital of the Central Asian country — Ashgabat and called the city the white sun of the desert.
On 28 September, Russian engineer and cosmonaut Ivan Vagner posted three photos of Ashgabat from space on his official page in the social network «Vkontakte». He also congratulated the citizens of Turkmenistan on the anniversary of independence.
— Ashgabat is a real white sun of the desert. The city is built on the sands, it amazes people with the snow-white marble, — wrote the astronaut.
Vagner explained that the name of the capital of Turkmenistan comes from the Persian words «love» and «city». According to him, the corresponding settlement was built back in 1881 near the Nisa fortress.
The astronaut emphasized that the photos clearly show beautiful palaces, various monuments, as well as marble buildings, original park areas. Particular attention was paid to the Turkmenbashy Ruhy Mosque, which is the most beautiful prayer house of Muslims in the world.
It is not the first time the Russian cosmonaut has posted photos of a Central Asian country from space. In the spring of 2020, he published an image of Turkmenabat — the administrative center of the Lebap province.
