Kyrgyzstan receives billion soms after returning stolen radio frequencies

The Cabinet of Ministers recalled last year’s scandal against the backdrop of the acts of corruption related to radio frequencies.

On September 28, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic announced the results of an online auction for the right to use 100 MHz radio frequency resource in the 2300 to 2400 MHz frequency range in Bishkek, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The winners of the auction are Alfa Telecom CJSC (MegaCom), NUR Telecom LLC (O!) and Sky Mobile LLC (Beeline).

The Cabinet of Ministers reported that Ala-TV LLC received the license for the specified radio frequency resource to operate the air-cable television network in Bishkek in 1998.

In 2020, the State Committee for National Security and the military prosecutor’s office revealed and suppressed the acts of corruption committed by the officials while concluding the purchase and sale deal on radio frequencies and reissuing a license for their use to the detriment of the state.

A number of officials were prosecuted, and radio frequencies were returned to the state.

As reported, the sale of radio frequencies, which were returned to the state, brought more than 1 billion soms to the budget.
