Kazakh Foreign Minister holds talks with UN leadership

The UN Secretary-General expressed gratitude for the decision to host the office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in Almaty.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tleuberdi, who was taking part in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who thanked Kazakhstan for the decision to host the office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in Almaty, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

“We regard this decision of the Republic of Kazakhstan as more than just assistance. You have shown the true spirit of diplomatic brotherhood, which will contribute to further excellent relations between the UN and Kazakhstan,” the Secretary-General emphasised.

Tleuberdi also met with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov. The Under-Secretary-General informed the Minister about the technical assistance programmes aimed at building up capacities of the Central Asian states to counter the terrorist threats in Afghanistan.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan held talks with Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Teodoro Locsin and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and had an online meeting with Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power.
