Iran provides Kyrgyzstan with port area to transport goods

The ministers discussed the situation in Afghanistan and trade and economic relations.

On September 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. The interlocutors considered the possibilities of further bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, health care and culture, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The Iranian Minister informed his counterpart that the Iranian Government had decided to provide Kyrgyzstan with a land section and infrastructure at the Bandar Abbas port to transport goods to and from Kyrgyzstan.

Kazakbayev highlighted the importance of implementing the bilateral transit potential, noting that Kyrgyzstan was interested in using the Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan railway corridor, which would contribute to increasing trade among the countries.

Kyrgyzstan is one of the 12 landlocked countries in Asia. It conducts trade with closest partners mainly by road.
