Islamic Development Bank opens representative office in Tashkent

The President of Uzbekistan and the President of the Islamic Development Bank discussed key issues of promoting bilateral cooperation.

On September 2, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a meeting with new President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, who arrived in the Republic to participate in the 46th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank. The parties discussed key issues of further expanding mutually beneficial multifaceted partnerships, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

They noted that over 19 years of cooperation, Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank had implemented 30 large investment projects worth over US$ 2.5 billion in such promising areas as transport, housing and communal infrastructure, energy, agricultural industry, water management, healthcare, medicine, education and entrepreneurship, among others.

The parties highlighted the need to expeditiously develop and implement a new three-year programme of cooperation, open a representative office of the Islamic Development Bank in the capital of Uzbekistan and increase the effectiveness of financial instruments.

The interlocutors also expressed the hope that the Economic Opportunities Development Fund of Uzbekistan would be an excellent mechanism to support the private sector, increase employment opportunities and improve the welfare of the people, in particular women and youth.
