United States intends to continue cooperation with Kazakhstan

The US President positively evaluated the Republic’s compliance with its obligations to ensure nuclear safety.

On September 1, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received a letter from US President Joseph Biden, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The US President congratulated his Kazakh counterpart on the 30th anniversary of the closing of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

Biden expressed the best wishes to the people of Kazakhstan on behalf of his country. The United States expresses its commitment to progressively deepening comprehensive partnerships, including in ensuring safety and land reclamation of the former test site through concerting intergovernmental efforts.

In this context, the US President highly evaluated the joint work to redress the nuclear legacy of the USSR under the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Programme. He also spoke positively about the Republic’s compliance with its obligations to ensure nuclear safety.

Biden emphasised that the United States valued friendly relations with Kazakhstan and hoped for continued promising cooperation to implement the significant potential of the two countries.
