On August 30-31, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe organized an online seminar on effective port management and maritime logistics for employees of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan. Russian maritime officials were the main speakers at the event, as reported by the press office of OSCE.
The seminar was focused on such topics as regular and timely freight, and promoting «green standards» in port operations. High-ranking civil servants of the Russian Federation focused on the organizational structure of the services of port captains, ensuring the environmental safety of the corresponding complexes.
Particular attention was paid to the best practices in the implementation of adequate oil spill response measures.
William Leaf, Officer-in-Charge of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, noted that the Turkmenbashi seaport is an important link in the maritime transport system in the Central Asian region. According to him, the harbor serves as a major transit hub on the Eurasian continent.
