Ministers of Tajikistan and Turkey discuss worsening situation in Afghanistan

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs also considered the possibilities of bilateral cooperation within the international organisations.

On August 18, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojidin Mukhriddin had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. The interlocutors considered the possibilities of bilateral cooperation within the international organisations, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.

They also reviewed the current state of Tajikistan-Turkey relations and expressed interest in strengthening ties in the fields of politics, trade, culture, tourism and education.

The Ministers also discussed the current situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Due to the worsening situation in Afghanistan, experts and political scientists are calling on the Central Asia countries not for the first time to prepare for the influx of migrants from Afghanistan.

Earlier, the UN called on the neighbours of Afghanistan not to close borders for refugees.

After the Taliban (the organisation is banned in Russia) had taken control of Kabul, Afghan citizens rushed to storm the Kabul International Airport as they tried to flee the country.
