Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and Ban Ki-moon discuss global agenda issues

Particular attention was paid to joint efforts to fight against the pandemic and settle the security situation around Afghanistan.

On August 17, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with a prominent politician, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his state visit to the Republic of Korea, the press office of Akorda reported.

Currently, Ban Ki-moon is using his rich experience as Chair of the Council of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The interlocutors substantively discussed the issues related to global environmental changes, decarbonization of the economy and intensified development of green technologies.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and Ban Ki-moon exchanged views on the current global situation and modern challenges in the context of the global agenda. They focused on the combined efforts to fight the pandemic and diplomatic means to resolve the Afghan problem.

Ban Ki-moon was the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2016. During this period, he reformed some areas of the UN peacekeeping activity, as well as the structural activities of the United Nations. In his work, Ban Ki-moon put special emphasis on global warming solutions as well.
