Presidents of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan discuss Afghan problem

Rahmon and Berdimuhamedov agreed to continue joint actions to help restore peace in the IRA.

On August 4, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his official visit to Turkmenistan. They discussed a wide range of issues, focusing on political instability in Afghanistan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

It was noted that stable relations between the two countries played an important role in achieving stability in the region. The leaders of the two states were unanimous that the situation in the IRA should be settled exclusively by peaceful means and as soon as possible. They agreed to continue joint actions to help restore peace in the South Asian state.

Berdimuhamedov highly evaluated the outcomes of the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference, which was held in Dushanbe in late March this year. Rahmon highly evaluated the efforts of Ashgabat in implementing a number of infrastructure transit and transport energy projects aimed at involving Afghanistan in the system of world economic relations and contributing to its social and economic revival.

The two leaders agreed to further strengthen their joint efforts to fight terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking at the bilateral level and within the international organisations.

The leaders of the two states also highlighted the importance of increasing bilateral trade. Rahmon invited Berdimuhamedov to visit Tajikistan at any convenient time.
