Rahmon urges to avoid mass gatherings on Idi Kurbon

The President of Tajikistan called on citizens of the Republic not to participate in mass festivities to curb the spread of coronavirus.

On July 19, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed the congratulations on Idi Kurbon to citizens of the Republic. He said they should avoid mass events and gatherings to curb the spread of coronavirus, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Noting that the people of Tajikistan were celebrating the sacred Muslim holiday amidst the coronavirus pandemic for the second year in a row, Rahmon said the Government had taken all the necessary measures to supress transmission of the virus in the country.

The President urged citizens to practise good hygiene and physical distancing and follow the rules for public gatherings. He added that they should refrain from moving out unnecessarily and participating in events with large numbers of guests.

The Council of Ulema of Tajikistan recommended that visits to relatives’ and friends’ homes and central mosques be restricted and called on citizens to wear masks and gloves in crowded places, in particular in prayer facilities.

As was reported, 52 new coronavirus cases were registered in the Republic in the last 24 hours.
