Germany helps Uzbekistan resolve Afghan refugee situation

An exchange of views on the situation in Afghanistan and the aspects of mutual assistance to the Afghanistan peace process took place.

Special Envoy of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office Matthias Luttenberg. The parties exchanged views on the settlement of the situation in the IRA and discussed the ways to assist Afghanistan in ensuring a peaceful life for its people, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.

The parties expressed concern over the escalation in the intra-Afghan military conflict. In this regard, the high-ranking officials agreed to continue joint efforts to support sustainable development and peace in Afghanistan, as well as to address the problems associated with a possible influx of Afghan refugees and border incidents.

The politicians also highlighted the significant role of the states of the region in providing economic and humanitarian support to the people of the Islamic Republic Afghanistan and their efforts towards establishing lasting peace in this country.
