Authorities of Kyrgyzstan prepare to receive Afghan Kyrgyz

As was reported, 347 Kyrgyz from the Small Pamir fled to Tajikistan, fearing a Taliban attack. Kyrgyzstan is ready to receive them.

On July 17, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhyldyz Bakashova took part in a meeting on the situation with the ethnic Kyrgyz from the Small Pamir, who had crossed the Afghan-Tajik border and were staying temporarily on the territory of Tajikistan, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the State Committee for National Security presented their reports at the meeting.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carrying out the necessary work together with the Government of Tajikistan and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to evacuate the Afghan Kyrgyz to Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is ready to receive them,” the press release says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was tasked to ensure that the ethnic Kyrgyz would receive medical care from the international humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders. The government agencies were instructed to prepare the resettlement sites and ensure that social and legal assistance would be provided to the Kyrgyz from the Small Pamir.

As was reported, more than 300 ethnic Kyrgyz fled from Afghanistan to Tajikistan, fearing the threat of the Taliban (an organization banned in the Russian Federation).
