Mosques throughout Kazakhstan be closed during Kurban Ait

In 2021, the Muslim community of Kazakhstan will observe Kurban Ait from 20 to 22 July.

This year, mosques will be closed for mass gatherings of people during Kurban Ait celebrations in response to the deteriorating epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan. These restrictions are imposed on the regions classified as a red zone, the Khabar 24 news site reported on July 15.

Parishioners were called upon to read the Eid Prayer at home and perform the traditional ritual animal sacrifice online. The Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Kazakhstan (SADUM) established fixed prices for sacrificial animals and informed citizens that their movement would be tracked during the pre-holiday week.

Currently, the stalls with sacrificial animals are almost empty. There is still time before the celebrations start, and the demand is not high. There will be a mass influx of buyers just before Kurban Ait celebrations; however attempts to raise prices are being made these days.

Press Secretary of the SADUM Agabek Konarbayuly noted that there was no need for citizens of Kazakhstan to visit crowded places. The special Internet resource has been launched so that believers will see their ritual animal sacrifice. Mosque servants and volunteers will divide sacrificed animals to support those in need.
