The President instructed that earthquake-damaged homes in Rasht Region be reconstructed at government expense.
The President of Tajikistan had a telephone conversation with the heads of administration of Rasht and Tajikabad Regions, who reported on the impacts of the earthquake that occurred on July 10 at 7:14 am local time, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
The magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred 20 kilometres from the centre of Rasht Region at a depth of 10 kilometres. The earthquake killed 5 people, including 2 children, and damaged 19 houses.
Rahmon instructed that immediate measures be taken to mitigate the impacts of the natural disaster, help citizens in the affected districts and reconstruct damaged houses at government expense.
The President created a special commission that would assess the situation and evaluate damage caused by the earthquake. Temporary accommodation, primary medical care and hot meals were provided to earthquake survivors.
The earthquake was felt in Dushanbe and other countries. There was the magnitude 2.0-3.0 aftershocks in the capital of the Central Asian country.
