Kazakhstan proposes to create regional centre for gender equality

The President said Kazakhstan was ready to invest in the Ray of Light UN Project for Central Asia.

On July 1, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev spoke from the virtual rostrum of the Generation of Equality global forum, convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France. Addressing the forum, the leader of Kazakhstan put forward the proposal of improving gender legitimacy, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

This forum aims to strengthen global efforts towards achieving gender equality and developing polygamous tools based on specific policy commitments. Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan had been pursuing the progressive policy on women empowerment for three decades of independence.

In this context, the President said Kazakhstan had joined the Action Coalition on Gender Based Violence and the Economic Justice and Rights Action Coalition.

Addressing the forum, Tokayev put forward an initiative to create a regional knowledge centre in Central Asia for the exchange of best practices for gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence. The President noted that Kazakhstan was ready to invest in the Ray of Light UN Project, which would be implemented in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
