Rahmon discusses terrorism with Speaker of Afghanistan’s House of the People

The parties agreed to take effective measures to combat crime groups involved in drug trafficking.

On June 30, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held an official meeting with Speaker of the lower house of the National Assembly of Afghanistan Mir Rahman Rahmani. The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation and the deterioration of the situation in the IRA, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Rahmon said Dushanbe would provide continued support to Kabul. He emphasised that under existing conditions the countries needed to expand ties in trade, economy, science and education, as well as in the fields of defence and security.

The interlocutors dwelt on the continued unrest and worsening political and military situation in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The President of Tajikistan highlighted the importance of practical interstate cooperation in solving this problem. The parties agreed to take effective measures to combat terrorists and crime groups involved in drug trafficking.

As was reported, on June 28, CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov said the Organisation would help Dushanbe combat militants on the border with Afghanistan.
