Rahmon says Mirziyoyev’s visit to Khujand is historic event

The President of Tajikistan noted that the leader of Uzbekistan had visited the ancient city for the first time in the modern history of relations between the two countries.

On June 11, the leader of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon welcomed President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the ancient city of Khujand. He said this visit was a historic event in relations between the Central Asian states, the press office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

Rahmon made this statement in his opening remarks at a meeting with representatives of the intelligentsia of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Arbob Palace of Culture.

Noting that the leader of Uzbekistan had visited the city of Khujand for the first time in the modern history of relations between the Republics, President of Tajikistan highlighted the significance of this visit in the year of the 30th anniversary of independence of Tajikistan.

The President of Tajikistan emphasised that it was in Arbob that the events, which had predetermined the sovereignty of the state, took place, and representatives of the intelligentsia had a special role to play in this process.

As was reported, Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid an official visit to Tajikistan on June 10-11. He attended the opening ceremony of a school in Samarkand and a modern medical complex in Khatlon Region. The countries signed 35 documents during the visit.
