Sadyr Japarov sets priorities of strategic partnerships with Turkey

Ankara hosted a regular meeting of the Supreme Council for Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Strategic Cooperation.

On June 9, the Supreme Council for Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Strategic Cooperation held its fifth meeting in Ankara. Addressing the meeting, President Sadyr Japarov set a number of key priorities of strategic partnerships with Turkey, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

These include trade and economic cooperation. Next month, Cholpon-Ata will host the 10th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Kyrgyzstan-Turkey business forum. Japarov highlighted the need to increase trade between the two countries to US$ 1 billion and develop new formats of cooperation to boost economic relations.

The President focused on providing Turkish entrepreneurs and investors with more attractive investment opportunities and state benefits in Kyrgyzstan.

The key priorities also include the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the logistics and transport sectors. Japarov spoke about Bishkek as a project representing a transport and logistics centre in Asia and the Manas International Airport as an air junction for Turkish airlines.

The leader of Kyrgyzstan suggested considering the measures to facilitate employment that would ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the two countries. The emphasis was placed on cultural and humanitarian cooperation and the organisation of the days of Kyrgyz and Turkish culture in 2021-2022.
