Berdimuhamedov defines future of relations between Turkmenistan and OSCE

The Turkmen leader touched upon the topic at a meeting with the new head of the OSCE Center, John McGregor.

On June 8, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with the new head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, John McGregor. He emphasized the vectors of further cooperation between the country and the organization, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

McGregor marked the high interest of the OSCE in expanding cooperation with the Central Asian state. The parties discussed the prospects for partnership in economy, energy security, transport and transit, technologies. Particular attention was paid to environmental issues and the problem of drying up of the Aral Sea.

The representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe highly evaluated the ongoing democratic reforms and the modernization of legislation in Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedov and McGregor agreed to do everything necessary to strengthen the joint fight against terrorists, extremists, drug dealers and cybercriminals. The partied noted the need for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, in particular through the implementation of projects in the energy and transport sector.

They also underlined the importance of the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline project, the activities of Turkmenistan in the construction of railways, power lines, and fiber-optic communication lines in IRA.

It must be added that John McGregor, a former officer of the Canadian Navy, took over as head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat on May 1, 2021. Prior to that, he was the coordinator of OSCE projects in Uzbekistan.

On June 4, the representative of the organization met with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. They discussed the ways to combat modern economic and information threats.
