Uzbekistan helps Tajikistan train officers

The Governments of the Republics signed an agreement on the training of citizens of Tajikistan at military universities in Uzbekistan.

The Governments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the admission of citizens of Tajikistan to the military universities in the neighbouring country. The two states have signed this document for the first time during the years of independence, the ASIA-Plus News Agency reported on June 3.

Currently, the government officials are negotiating on the number of annual admission quotas, which will be offered to young citizens of Tajikistan in higher education institutions. They will receive an opportunity to study at the military universities in Uzbekistan this year.

The parties are also negotiating on the specialities which future officers from Tajikistan will be trained in.

400 citizens of the Republic are admitted to military educational institutions every year. Of them, 250 entrants choose the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defence and 150 entrants study abroad, mainly in the Russian Federation, India, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan from this year.

In accordance with the instructions of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, 80 future officers, who have undergone health assessments and interviews, are admitted to universities without entrance exams every year.
