The President of Turkmenistan received the title within the decision of the Mejlis (one of the chambers of the parliament).
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held an expanded government meeting on May 24. It was dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat, as well as to a number of issues related to the state life. It was reported by the news agency «Turkmenistan Today».
The head of the Mejlis (one of the chambers of parliament) Gulshat Mammedova congratulated the leader of the country on the 140th anniversary of the city. She noted that on May 22, at a meeting of the Mejlis, it was decided to confer the title of «Honorary Citizen of the city of Ashgabat» to the President of Turkmenistan.
The civil servant presented the relevant document to the head of the state, having underlined his merits in the achievements of the country and the capital. The official wished Berdimuhamedov long life and success in his work aimed at the prosperity of the people.
The leader of the country, in turn, said that it is a great honor for him to be an honorary citizen of Ashgabat. He promised to continue to do his best to improve the quality of citizens' life.
It must be mentioned that the 20th international universal exhibition «White City — Ashgabat» opened at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on May 24. It is timed to coincide with the 140th anniversary of the capital of Turkmenistan.
