Heavy rain causes flooding in Dushanbe

A similar situation is observed in Sughd and Khatlon Regions.

Heavy rains with thunderstorm affected Tajikistan, creating the flooding risk hotspots in a number of regions. Dushanbe is no exception. Flooding paralyzed traffic on several major streets, the press office of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence reported on May 11.

A large lake of mud and rainwater appeared under a bridge on the road leading to the Dushanbe airport. All street car traffic was suspended for several hours.

A line of cars lined up on both sides of the bridge. Some of them underestimated risks, got stuck under water and had to wait to be rescued. Several drivers swam to safety out of the flooded sections of the road.

A similar situations is observed in Sughd and Khatlon Regions. Mudflows left 13 houses and many kilometres of roads that connect the regions destroyed. The natural disaster broke 10 bridges, killed 4 people and destroyed 100 hectares of land under crops.

In accordance with the instructions of President Emomali Rahmon, the commission was established to estimate damage and cope with the effects of natural disaster.
