The sporting event took place in Ashgabat and was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the capital of Turkmenistan.
On May 11, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in a mass bike ride in Ashgabat. The sporting event was organized as part of an environmental campaign in honor of the 140th anniversary of the capital, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».
The bike ride started in the southern part of the city, in the area of the business cultural center. The marathon continued along the main highways. At that time Berdimuhamedov was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Shamuhammet Durdylyyev, who supervises Ashgabat.
He reported to the leader of the country on arrangements for the 140th anniversary of the capital, as well as on the results of work aimed at ensuring environmental well-being. The President stressed that special attention should be paid to landscaping parks and squares.
At the Monument of Neutrality, other officials joined the head of the state and the deputy prime minister. These were other deputy prime ministers, chairman of the Mejlis, parliamentarians, security officials, representatives of public organizations, journalists, students, pupils of the Palace of Orphans.
Berdimuhamedov completed his journey at the Main Square of the country. The rest of the participants of the sporting event proceeded to the Ashgabat Monument.
It must be added that the environmental campaign was initiated in Turkmenistan on May 10. It will run until May 25, and traffic will be limited during this period of time.
As part of the celebration of World Health Day, on April 7, Ashgabat and all provinces hosted mass bike rides, one of which was led by Berdimuhamedov.
