Draft law on special status of Batken Region introduced to Parliament

The Government explained that a special status would give the region preferences and special authorities.

On May 4, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulukbek Maripov held a meeting with the residents of Kok-Tash border village to inform them about the draft law on a special status of Batken region. The Cabinet of Ministers introduced the draft law as an urgent document to Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kyrgyz government reports.

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov initiated the draft law to promote social and economic development of the region.

The draft law proposes to entitle the plenipotentiary representative to coordinate the activities of the territorial divisions of government agencies and local authorities and interact with the law enforcement and security agencies.

It also provides for the creation of concessional financing mechanisms, specific process of regional budget preparation and special tax and investment regimes with public guarantees.
