Rahmon and Japarov to discuss situation on Tajik-Kyrgyz border

During a telephone conversation, the leaders of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan agreed to meet.

On April 30, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held telephone talks with President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. The parties agreed to meet in Dushanbe and discuss the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

The leaders of the two sates highlighted the importance of implementing consistently the agreements on a complete ceasefire and the pullback of military concentrations, in particular. They noted that the intergovernmental commission on border delimitation and demarcation would hold a meeting in Batken city of Kyrgyzstan on May 1.

Rahmon invited Japarov to visit Dushanbe in the near future. The Kyrgyz leader accepted the invitation. The parties agreed to meet in the capital of Tajikistan in the second half of May.

As was reported, an armed conflict that arose at the Golovnoy water distribution point resulted from the lack of a common position of the authorities on the belonging of that territory. Following the talks between the foreign ministers of the countries, a decision was made to cease fire and pull back military concentrations.
