Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to expand sea freight

The countries will develop sea traffic between Aktau and Turkmenbashi seaports.

On April 29, Ambassador of Turkmenistan Batyr Rejepov met with the head of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov in Nur-Sultan. The parties discussed the prospects for the development of sea traffic between the states. It was reported by the press office of the Kazakh government agency on April 30.

The officials touched upon the topic of expanding the volume of cargo transportation between the Aktau International Sea Trade Port and the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port. The emphasis was placed on the importance of the development of feeder service, which is realized by means of ships over short distances for further loading and transportation.

Rejepov and Atamkulov also discussed the prospects for building up relations in economy, trade, and military-technical sphere.

The Turkmen official announced interest of Ashgabat in purchasing products made by Kazakhstani enterprises and expanding the transit of goods in various directions.

It must be mentioned that in December last year the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov to complete organizational issues related to the establishment of traffic to the Aktau port.
