Presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan touched upon the topic during a telephone conversation.
Leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held telephone talks on April 28. They discussed important areas of further interstate cooperation and agreed on a meeting of the foreign ministers, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».
On behalf of the entire Tajik nation, Rahmon expressed his condolences to Berdimuhamedov due to the death of his father — Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov.
The parties agreed that a consultative meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan should be held soon. The heads of the states also agreed to hold a regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in the near future.
Berdimuhamedov and Rahmon marked the importance of expanding interstate relations in transport, electricity, agriculture, oil and gas industry, culture, science and education.
The emphasis was also placed on the effectiveness of cooperation between the Turkmen and Tajik authorities within the framework of the UN, OSCE, CIS and OIC.
