Presidents of Turkmenistan and Russia discuss strategic partnership

Berdimuhamedov and Putin touched upon the issue of the pandemic, as well as the arrangement of the Caspian Summit and the Caspian Economic Forum.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held telephone talks on April 26. The leaders of the countries discussed a wide range of issues related to expanding the potential of strategic partnership between states, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

Putin expressed his condolences to Berdimuhamedov due to the death of his father, Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov. The Turkmen leader said that he appreciated the support of the head of the Russian Federation in these difficult days. The Russian leader also congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on his election as head of Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh (one of the chambers of the new parliament).

The parties paid special attention to the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan as an honorary guest in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which will be held in Kazan on April 29-30. The presidents also discussed the arrangement of the 2nd Caspian Economic Forum and the 6th Summit of the Heads of the Caspian States. Berdimuhamedov and Putin agreed that these events would open up new opportunities for strengthening interstate ties.

They underlined the importance of building up relations between Turkmenistan and Russia in economy, trade, energy and culture.

Touching upon the topic of the coronavirus pandemic, the presidents noted the need to continue cooperation in this direction. Putin expressed gratitude to Berdimuhamedov for sending humanitarian aid to Astrakhan. In addition, the head of the Russian Federation thanked his colleague for the fact that Turkmenistan was one of the first states to register antiviral vaccines produced in Russia.
