Turkmenistan and Turkey to expand cooperation in education

The topic was touched upon at the 3rd meeting of the specialized Turkmen-Turkish council.

Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey intend to expand the potential of bilateral cooperation in the field of education. The issue was discussed during the 3rd meeting of the specialized Turkmen-Turkish Council online on April 20. It was reported by the press office of the Ministry of National Education of Turkey.

The meeting was attended by the heads of the ministries of education of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey — Ziya Selcuk and Orazgeldy Gurbanov. The parties discussed the Memorandum of Understanding on secondary schools scheduled for signing.

Officials also agreed that in the current situation it is necessary to start work on a comprehensive agreement on cooperation in the educational sphere.

Selcuk and Gurbanov agreed to intensify the exchange of experience in supporting the education system amid the pandemic. The emphasis was placed on the importance of the development of distance education.

The Turkish minister stressed that between 1999 and 2020, thousands of Turkmen citizens got education scholarships and that these students have become cultural ambassadors.

It should be added that the previous meeting of the Turkmen-Turkish Council for Partnership in Education was held in 2015.
