Turkmenistan joins Patent Law Treaty

The representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Haljanov presented the instrument on accession to the document to WIPO Director General Tang.

On April 19, a solemn ceremony of presenting the Instrument on Accession to the Patent Law Treaty signed by the leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Darren Tang, was organized in Geneva, as reported by electronic newspaper «Golden Age».

The document was handed over by Atageldy Haljanov, the representative of the Central Asian country to the United Nations office. It is important to note that at the moment, Turkmenistan is a part to 13 out of 26 WIPO legal instruments apart from the patent law treaty.

The general director of the organization said that it was the 43rd state that has joined the agreement. The process, according to Tang, confirms readiness of Ashgabat to promote the implementation of other documents of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

It must be mentioned that Turkmenistan has been a member of WIPO since 1991. The corresponding agreement was adopted on June 1, 2000. It focuses on the harmonization and optimization of formal procedures for the processing of patent applications at the national and regional levels.
