Defence Minister of Tajikistan highlights importance of air defence for the CIS countries

This theme was taken up at the 52nd meeting of the CIS Air Defence Coordination Committee.

On April 13, Minister of Defence of Tajikistan Sherali Mirzo took part in the 52nd meeting of the CIS Air Defence Coordination Committee under the CIS Council of Defence Minister in Dushanbe. He highlighted the importance of the air defence system for the Commonwealth of Independent States, the press office of the CIS Executive Committee reported on April 14.

Mirzo noted that the meeting was taking place in Tajikistan in the year of the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Tajikistan and Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the SCO and CSTO.

The Minister said the air defence system played an important role in cooperation between the CIS member states, in particular in the regions with escalating ethnic and religious strife.

He underscored the importance of enhancing the fight against terrorists, in particular by using small aircrafts and unmanned aerial vehicles

The participants also focused on using the air defence systems in military operations against terrorist groups in Syria. The participants agreed on the main aspects of the joint military exercise Combat Commonwealth – 2021.

The representatives of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Armenia and Belarus took part in the event.
