Nine sites in Tajikistan inscribed on UNESCO List

These historical and cultural monuments are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization had inscribed nine historical and cultural sites in Tajikistan located along the Zarafshon-Kayrakkum corridor on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, the press office of the Ministry of Culture reported on April 12.

The list includes the site of ancient town of Hisorak, Tali Hamtud, Ancient Pyanjekent, the site of ancient town of Sanjarshokh, Kalai Mug, Kum, Gardani Hisor, Hoja Muhammad Bashoro Mausoleum and Toxankorez irrigation system.

Tajik and foreign specialists have conducted archeological excavation on the monuments. Representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Academy of Sciences and Tajikistan National Commission for UNESCO were responsible for preparing and submitting the nomination dossiers to UNESCO.

National Coordinator for Material Culture at Tajikistan UNESCO Office Mirzosharif Abdusalomov said this event was the recognition that Tajikistan had rich cultural legacy.
