Kyrgyzstan to stiffen penalties for crimes

Novikov said many measures had been developed on the papers: strategies, concepts, plans, but they were not working in practice.

On April 12, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Artyom Novikov held a meeting to discuss the issues concerning domestic violence and abduction. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the need to develop an algorithm that would adequately respond to certain crimes, the press office of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

Novikov underscored the need to develop an algorithm that would adequately respond to abduction using the Safe City cameras, so that the patrol police could prevent promptly such incidents and eliminate bureaucracy in these matters.

Together with parliament members, the state bodies were instructed to tighten the laws to give adequate protection of the rights of children and women who had experienced abuse.

The Deputy Prime Minister proposed that the penalty for ala kachuu (abduction of women for marriage) should be stiffen and equate ala kachuu with kidnapping.

Novikov emphasised that many measures had been developed on the papers: strategies, concepts, plans, but they were not working in practice.
