On April 9, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Uzbekistan and other representatives attended a press conference at the International Hotel. The conference marked the launch of the EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP+) on April 10, the press office of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan reported.
It was noted that the scheme was a special step in EU-Uzbekistan relations.
“The EU’s decision to give our Republic the status of a GSP+ beneficiary country was encouraged by the tangible results of large-scale reforms and transformations implemented under the leadership and at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the aim of building a democratic state with strong public administration and civil society institutions,” Umurzakov emphasised.
Head of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adriaen emphasised that it was a very timely decision to apply the Generalised Scheme of Preferences to the Republic of Uzbekistan, especially during the pandemic. She noted that this motivated the country to continue reforms.
