On April 8, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov, who had arrived in Nur-Sultan for a working visit. The parties discussed the major aspects of bilateral cooperation in a number of spheres, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.
The leader of Kazakhstan conveyed gratitude to President Vladimir Putin for supporting Kazakhstan in the difficult situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As was reported, Russia had responded positively to a request made by Kazakhstan to supply additional 4 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said he had been vaccinated recently with the Sputnik V vaccine, produced in Karaganda.
Conveying the greetings from the leadership of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov said the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council would convene an online meeting next month. The meeting will focus on the key vectors of coordinated efforts to tackle challenges in the post-pandemic era.
The RF Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that a landmark date was being celebrated this year – the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight. Lavrov said this was a mutual contribution to the peaceful exploration of outer space, and the activities at Baikonur, aimed at enhancing Russia-Kazakhstan cooperation in space, were in full swing.
