Uzbekistan and Iran agree to promote bilateral cooperation

The parties discussed the issues concerning economic ties, trade exchanges and cooperation in the transport, transit and energy sectors.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov had a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. The officials discussed the approaches to strengthening economic relations and promoting partnerships in the transport, transit and energy sectors, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Ministers dwelt on political issues between Iran and Uzbekistan, the existing grounds for cultural and tourism cooperation and approaches to promoting interaction in various economic sectors.

The politicians highlighted the need to implement interregional transport and logistics projects aimed at increasing mutual trade and enhancing trade and economic contacts. They noted that the use of Iran’s port facilities on the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea could serve to build the economic potential of the two countries.

The parties exchanged views on unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, cooperation between Tehran and Tashkent in Afghan peace process and their interaction within the bodies of international law.
