Firuz Ramazon criticizes US report on elections in Tajikistan

A representative of the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan said the report was not supported by credible evidence.

On April 3, a representative of the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan Firuz Ramazon criticised the 2020 Country Report on Human Rights Practices: Tajikistan released by the US Department of State on his Facebook page. The political scientist said the document was based on misleading information and press reports.

The 2020 Country Report says the parliamentary and presidential elections in Tajikistan did not meet international standards. In response, Ramazon recalled the storming of the US Capitol by Donald Trump’s supporters that had made the United States collapse into chaos, noting that several people had died amid the storming.

He noted that the people in Tajikistan had come with songs and dances to vote, while in the west, citizens had come with stones and sticks. The representative of the Centre for Strategic Studies said Donald Trump had sent Emomali Rahmon a message of congratulations on his election as President of Tajikistan.

Ramazon called on the US authorities not to interfere in the internal affairs of Tajikistan, as this was a violation of the international standards.
